why we must struggle

Why We Must Struggle
by Kay Ryan

If we have not struggled
as hard as we can
at our strongest
how will we sense
the shape of our losses
or know what sustains
us longest or name
what change costs us
saying how strange
it is that one sector
of the self can step in
for another in trouble
how loss activates
a latent double how
we can feed
as upon nectar
upon need?

  1. This reminds me of the verse we grew up on, Ruth: Who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Cor. 1:4 (World English Bible)

Welcome. If you would like to say something, rest assured that I will respond in my self, even if I do not respond in word.
