The Soul
by Katie Ford
It disappeared.
It reappeared
as chimney smoke
that burnt through carcasses
of swallows stilled,
and that it portrayed no will
was why I followed that smoke
with this pair of eyes.
It was that it didn’t need
or require my belief
that I leant upon it
as a tired worker
upon
a gate.
"That it portrayed no will" is a new concept for me of the soul, Sister. I'm sure I'll be thinking about that all day!
ReplyDeleteIt was for me too, Boots! And I have been thinking about it since.
Deletei was wondering about the difference between spirit and soul the other day. i am only working this out but i wonder if there is only one soul(the one we all share) and above that, from our particular articulations, our spirit springs forth? (i don't know. perhaps tomorrow i will change my mind.)
ReplyDeleteyour photograph breaks forth into spirit, which like a cloud enshrouds the soul, giving it form.
