already there

Any theory, any idea, any speculation can augment the zest for life so long as one does not make the mistake of thinking that he is getting somewhere. We are getting nowhere, because (metaphysically speaking) there is nowhere to go. We are already there, have been since eternity. All we need do is wake up to the fact.

— Henry Miller, Stand Still Like the Hummingbird, "My Life as an Echo"

  1. WOW! The image is luscious, Ruth (cottage rain!!!) and the quote....makes me want to have a group discussion about it, and then go off alone to absorb it all.

  2. i'm wondering right now how it is that it is still possible to long inside the here and now and BE inside the here and now but i think that it is possible. i think that's where i am, or at least most times when i am successful at shedding distraction and illusion.

(oh! so many books to read. i think this henry miller is a must for me.)
