over the water

over the water
with weeds the paired Dragonflies
confound Time and me

[I am at the lake for a couple of weeks, sitting, staring, reading, writing, photographing, . . . being.
I'd like to write a haiku for small each day I'm here. This remembering, simply remembering,
is what I wish. There is great help all around me to do so.]

  1. ah, if i look closely are you there too in reflection being confounded(?)

and to think, i woke with the line of a haiku in my head! the synchronicity between us! (but i cheat this synchronicity as james and i play with older translations of basho and others.)

i am so very glad that you have a couple weeks (what wealth!) to be still. a perfect opportunity for seeing keenly and writing with great efficiency:) there are so many miracles to note.

i was just going to ask you if you have spotted the metallic green dragonfly but i thought to look up its name first and now realize that it was not a dragonfly i was watching a week or so ago but a damselfly. who knew! how badly i would write my haiku with so little knowledge while yours gleams true.

    1. I am so happy for our synchronicities, Erin. And don't believe for a minute that I can tell the difference between a dragonfly and a damselfly. I still need to work on that.

I would like to read haiku that you and James write, very much.

    2. I think the easiest way to tell the difference between a dragonfly and a damselfly is how their wings rest: dragonfly's out to the side perpendicular, and damselfly's straight back in line with its body.

  2. Ooooo - Sabbatical :) Just being - in tune with the Rhythm of Nature... Leaning into the depths of the Mystery of Life that confounds Time and us... Lovely... Look forward to your Haikus

    1. Exactly, Christine, just being. Before I left I intended just to be.

      Thank you.

  3. Let your heaven rest within you these days at that special place, Sister. A silent sob just passed through me...for I, too, long to be in that holy place. (I look forward to our Skype later!)

    1. Oh Boots, I wish you could come. I realized on my drive up that it is 50 years this year that we've had this place!

    2. 50 years! I was in my freshman year at Michigan and will never forget it, Ruth. 50 years of history at that place!

  4. I had to highlight you, Ruth, on my side bar. I have a few photographers and unique blogs that I like to be able to click on when I need relaxing. :) Your eye for photography never ceases to amaze me - and the poets you select (and the few you write yourself still) always thrill me. Hope you are enjoying the last bit of summer before you are back at work.

Welcome. If you would like to say something, rest assured that I will respond in my self, even if I do not respond in word.
