everything you want

"Everything you want is on the other side of fear."

— Jack Canfield

This was one of the meditations that got
my daughter through the labor and birth
of my second grandson

    1. Thank you, George. He's off to a great start, and we are so grateful. Both his names are family names; Henry for his maternal great great grandfather, and Bennett for my brother.

    1. James, he is so beautiful. You made me smile with your compliments. It is extraordinary how joy is cradled in importance and responsibility. He is entrusted to us. Oh my.

  4. Beautiful. I, too, will try to take this meditation onboard for my own future sailings. So simple, yet so essential — I guess in this sense, too, the most necessary wisdom is also "small". Congratulations to all of you. I was flying over the Atlantic when young Henry Bennett joined us on this "mortal coil"!

    1. Larry, it is beautiful to see you here and to receive your blessings for Henry Bennett after your concurrent safe passages. Enjoy yourself with your mother and friends. I hope you brought polar gear for what will surely be nippy dashes around NYC in Polar Vortex 3. Who knew?

    1. Erin, thank you for your soft and precious blessing. I observed in just 4 days how Henry began to receive the world differently as his experience of it expanded, how relaxed he became, after the tight coils of happy confinement.

  6. Congratulations, Ruth. This photo brought tears to my eyes.

Canfield's words are stunning, and paired with a breathtaking image.

    1. Amanda, I love that you found something in this image, too. I was browsing photos with Lesley, my daughter, and she said, "wait, mom, go back. I love this one." And she asked for it to be framed. Then I asked if I could post it here, and she suggested the meditation. I agree with you that they feel perfect together.

    1. Christine, this is such an important time in Henry's life, and I am so incredibly grateful that he is swaddled in love. We all kept pausing in gratitude. Yes, I thought this quote was really something to ponder and explore. I don't even quite understand it yet, though it makes sense for Lesley and her birth. I want to understand it for myself in other ways, too.

  9. Welcome, Henry! (Bennett, perfect) Congratulations to you all. He is beautiful and perfect, as are photo and quote (words I am going to add to my wall). Already he is so different from what is here; what joy to witness his unfolding.

  11. Joy and congratulations to you and your daughter. Such a lovely photo and quote. Oh, Ruth, in the great mix of life and death that we're involved in, my brother was killed in an accident the day after your precious grandson was born. It somehow eases the grief to put his loss in this bigger context of welcoming new life to our human family.

Welcome. If you would like to say something, rest assured that I will respond in my self, even if I do not respond in word.
